I just realized I didn’t post pictures from my recent San Francisco trip. Here are a few of my favorites featuring Union Square, the Transamerica Pyramid and my wife.

Weekend Update: Alleged Vacation

Spent the weekend in Dallas with the wife.

What? You didn’t know that Dallas was the new vacation spot?

Well, really it’s not, but we had a good time. We were there for a wedding and made a long weekend out of it hanging out with friends, enjoying some good food, and doing a little site seeing.

One of the sites we saw was the Sixth Floor Museum. The museum is on the sixth floor of the Texas Book Depository building where Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot JFK. I say “allegedly” because that’s what the plaque on the building says. Also, if you ask the guy who has a display on the grassy knoll he’ll tell you it was all part of a conspiracy.

Anyway, that was my weekend. How was yours?

2009: What A Year

One of the accomplishment in 2009 of which I’m most proud is seeing both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous 48 states.

The week following Christmas I visited the Badwater Basin in Death Valley, which is 282 ft below sea level. In July I summited Mt. Whitney, which is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet.

It’s pretty crazy if you think about it. Not many can claim such an accomplishement, even though the two points are a mere 76 miles apart.

I truly feel blessed to have been able to make both trips this year. Thank you to all who made those trips possible.

My Mount Whitney Trip is quickly approaching. I leave tomorrow morning for a 4-day trek up the 14,496 foot mountain. Wish me luck and say a prayer.

Vacation Update

Now that I'm definitely back at work, here's a sort of vacation update. It's not necessarily in chronological order.

Visited with family
Attended numerous Christmas parties
Ate a bunch of really good food
Lead worship at church
Shopped for Christmas presents on Christmas Eve
Ate a great Christmas Eve dinner cooked by my mother-in-law
Got up early on Christmas morning to volunteer for Dinner in the Park but didn't go because of the rain
Ate biscuits and gravy for breakfast on Christmas day
Ate a delicious Christmas dinner cooked by my mother
Opened stockings with my wife (Santa visited our new home for the first time)
Watched Will Smith in 7 lbs. and cried like a girl
Finally got around to watching the Andromeda Strain mini-series from a year ago
Hung curtains in bedroom
Checked my work email once
Bought a love seat for the office/library
Cleaned the house
Ate a bunch of candy
Rearranged furniture in the office/library
Played a lot of Mario Kart and Guitar Hero World Tour
Listened to Feist's The Reminder
Listened to the Beatles' Revolver
Visited the optometrist
Ate BBQ at Barn Burner and celebrated a good friend's birthday
Played Bunco with friends and family New Year's Eve
Got up super early and watched the Rose Parade from Erin's office building
Halfway watched the Rose Bowl from bed
Watched the Maltese Falcon
Mowed the lawn and raked leaves
Ate out a bunch

Weekend Update

This was a crazy whirl-wind weekend. I even elongated it by taking Friday off. Here’s a quick recap.

Friday

Knotts Berry Farm for my wife’s office picnic. We had a great time and got a lot of rides in before we had to leave at 5pm to make it back for VBS at church. Perhaps one of the coolest rides was the Accelerator, which launches you at 80 mph down the track in less than 2 seconds. Crazy!

Vacation Bible School was next. We had a decent turn out and a lot of fun. I had the kids do a couple relays involving toilet paper.

After VBS a group of us went and stood in line at the Burbank AMC to see the 11:20 PM showing of the new Batman movie. It was awesome! Well-worth the wait in line. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. If you go be prepared for some clown related violence.

Saturday

After a late Friday night the wife and I slept in, had a late lunch at Porto’s, did some laundry and took a little afternoon nap before heading over to Glendale Cruise Night.

Glendale Cruise Night was packed. There were hundreds of classic cars, and a few new ones, lining Brand Blvd. We arrived around 6 PM and stayed until 11 PM.

Sunday

Did the normal church stuff, had a quick lunch with the wife and in-laws, took the wife to the airport for a business trip, and went to small group. After group a few of us went to Baskin Robins for some ice cream. My wife claims I don’t like ice cream, so I had to prove her wrong and eat some while she’s out of town.

Who’s Ready To Be Back?

Who’s ready to be back at work after the 3-day weekend? Not me! I could really use one more day to relax and reacclimate after being gone all weekend. I think my body was secretly trying to get me to stay home too, because as I was leaving I managed to spill coffee all over my pants. I was a little annoyed, but what are you going to do.

This weekend was great. Erin and I spent 3 nights in Paso Robles in an amazing little vineyard. We had a wonderful time exploring, eating great food, drinking a little wine and reading. It was refreshing to get away for a few days and it’s been a long time since I’ve just relaxed, let alone spent 3 entire days alone with my wife. I really enjoyed this weekend. I wish we could take the time to get away more often. I’ll tell you more about our little vacation later, when I can download a few pictures.

While this weekend was nothing but relaxing, which was exactly what I needed, I could still use one more day to get back into the swing of things here. I’ve got yard work and laundry to do, email to catch up on, bills to pay, an entire house to clean and one more afternoon nap would be wonderful. However, as I write this from work, I know that it’s already too late. I missed my opportunity to stay home.

Santa Cruz Island

A couple weeks ago I attended a conference up in Oxnard, CA at the Embassy Suites Hotel Mandalay Beach Resort. During that conference I enjoyed a little side trip to one of the Channel Islands. It was awesome. Check out my pictures from Santa Cruz Island below.
