The LA Times ran a little feature on a Burbank time capsule hidden in the Magnolia Blvd. bridge on February 1, 1959. The people of 1959 predicted monorails, atomic power, and a park-like city of 150,000. It's supposed to be opened on February 5, 2009, but like the Times writer, I wonder if it really will. There probably isn't much need to open it at this point, especially if the Times is able to report on its contents with it still buried.
According to the 2000 census Burbank's population is 100,316, which is thankfully quite a bit less than the 150,000 predicted in 1959. Can you imagine another 50,000 people?
